アーティストインレジデンスプログラム『野良の滞在』に香港のプリンティングアーティストAlex Lauが参加
毎日の忙しさに追われ、知らず知らずのうちに忘れがちになってしまう「つくる」営み。
人間本来持ち合わせているはずの「つくる」を、都市性と田舎の良さをどちらも併せ持つ場所、亀岡市で捉え直していくアーティストインレジデンスプログラムが、『野良の滞在』だ。『野良の滞在』の3人目のアーティストとして、香港を拠点に活動するプリンティングアーティストAlex Lauが参加する。

Alex Lau / the memory machine
The memory machine は、香港を拠点とする alexlau の写真表現、ローテクな印刷技法、そして本づくりの関係性を探る個人的な試みから始まった取り組み。2018年よりリソグラフ印刷機を用いて写真の印刷や出版物の制作を開始し、これまでに BOOKED: Hong Kong Art Book Fair、abC Art Book Fair、Taipei Art Book Fair、Tokyo Art Book Fair、Osaka Art Book Fair、KG+ Photobook Fair など、国内外のアートブックフェアに参加。
2021年に自身のクリエイティブスタジオを設立。リソグラフを単なる印刷技法としてだけでなく、表現や制作プロセスそのものとして捉え、その可能性を探求する。またアーティストや写真家との協働を通じて、アーティストブックやエディション作品の制作にも取り組む。これらの作品の一部は、世界各地のギャラリーや美術館で展示されている。
The memory machine started as a personal exploration between images, low-tech printing, and book-making by alexlau in Hong Kong. From 2018, he began printing photographs and making publications with a risograph duplicator. Throughout the years, he has been participating in local and international art book fairs, including BOOKED: Hong Kong Art Book Fair, abC Art Book Fair in Shanghai, Taipei Art Book Fair, Tokyo Art Book Fair, Osaka Art Book Fair, and KG+ Photobook Fair. In 2021, he founded his own creative studio to explore the potential of risograph in terms of a printing technique, as well as an artistic process and expression. The studio also collaborates with artists and photographers, in co-creating artists‘ books and editioned prints. Some of the pieces have been exhibited globally in galleries and museums.

アーティストステートメント
Alex Lau
昨年初めて京都・亀岡の並河を訪れた時、穏やかな日常の風景と豊な農作物に心を動かされた。今回の2週間の滞在制作では、並河地域で育まれる野菜を主なテーマに置き、取り組みたいと考えている。
リソグラフ印刷機に備わっていながらあまり注目されることのない「スキャン機能」を活用し、日々出会った野菜を直接スキャンガラスの上に配置して制作を行う予定。移動する光によって野菜のかたちや質感を写し取ることで、一点ごとの固有性をもつ写真のような痕跡を生み出したい。
作品を通じて、並河で過ごす短い時間のなかで得られる感覚や体験、この土地とのつながりを記録していきたいと考えている。
What you would like to do during your stay at this residence program
Last year when I first visited Namikawa in Kameoka, Kyoto, I was deeply moved by its serene daily life and abundant agricultural produce. For this two-week residency, I intend to focus on local vegetables as my core theme. Utilising the often-overlooked scanning component of the risograph duplicator, I will compose with the vegetables I found everyday directly onto the scanning glass. By letting the moving light capture their physical forms, I aim to create one-of-a-kind photographic imprints—documenting my sensory experiences, my short stay, and connection with Namikawa.
